Late DJ, producer, and hyper-pop trailblazer SOPHIE’s final album is set for release later this year. SOPHIE’s family and close collaborators have finalized the project she was working on at the time of her death – the album, titled “SOPHIE,” is produced by her long-time collaborator Benny Long. The project’s first glimpse, the song “Reason Why,” featuring BC Kingdom and Kim Petras, was published on June 24. “SOPHIE” will be released on September 27 via Transgressive Records, her label.

“This album has always told the story of Sophie’s musical journey, a cacophony of skill and creative vision eclipsing time and genre. Her unique sound world moves at an emotional level, encouraging the listener to intuitively embrace the ever-evolving landscape of light and dark, soft and hard, to the end of self-love and joyful self-acceptance. Emphasizing contradictions of sound and material, Sophie’s work supersedes the pure aural to create the dimension she dreamed of,” SOPHIE’s family said in a statement to reveal the album.

SOPHIE was only 34 years old when the artist died in 2021 after a fall from a hotel rooftop in Athens. As a producer, SOPHIE became prominent in the mid-2010s as part of the pop production team PC Music, working with well-known artists such as Charli XCX and A.G. Cook. “Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides,” SOPHIE’s only solo album, was released in 2018 and received positive critiques for its abstract, difficult electronic music that hits your heart while also crossing boundaries of pop music and chasing transcendence.

“Sophie gave all of herself to her music. It’s here that she can always be found,” SOPHIE’s family stated at the conclusion of their statement. With SOPHIE’s new album release planned, her family hopes to share with the world the music she hoped to release, and listeners around the world can continue connecting with the hyper-pop trailblazer’s favorite genre through the album
