The news has been confirmed that a new album from the late Scottish electronic pioneer, SOPHIE, will be released on September 27 by Future Classic and Transgressive. This will be the second full-length album from the artist and the first since her untimely death in 2021.
In a statement released by SOPHIE’s family, they joined forces with friends to “lovingly finalize” the record, which was already “close to completion” before her passing. The statement goes on to say that SOPHIE was known for expressing herself through her music and that it would be a fitting tribute to release the record now.
It’s been suggested that the release of this album comes after a cryptic message on social media and YouTube teased a forthcoming announcement on the 24th of June this year, which was later revealed to be the release of SOPHIE’s new single featuring Kim Petras and BC Kingdom, entitled “Reason Why.”
The family’s statement also talks about how this album was always intended to tell SOPHIE’s musical journey, showcasing her skills and vision, transporting listeners through light and dark, soft and hard. SOPHIE’s unique sound sets her work apart, creating a world that transcends mere sound and deals with the dimensions she dreamt of.
