The worldwide stream of the live-action, stage musical adaptation of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is now available. The second part of the stage production was broadcasted from August 2021 and is viewable across international regions such as Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
During the Taisho era, the story focuses on Tanjiro, a young, kind-hearted man who deals with the sale of coal and his discover that his family was slaughtered by a demon one day. The only survivor was his sister, Nezuko, who has transformed into a demon. Despite the hopelessness of his circumstances, Tanjiro ventures to turn his sister back into a human and slay the demon responsible for their family’s death. The adaptation’s official synopsis established this intertwined and tragic tale involving humans and demons.
As stated by Crunchyroll, it’s a brand new way to experience Tanjiro’s story, with the tragic tale taking place on stage. Until now, it was only available in Japan, with the first show running from January to February 2020. The stage adaptation is based on the Shonen Jump hit by Koyoharu Gotoge and features Ryota Kobayashi as Tanjiro Kamado, Akari Takaishi as Nezuko Kamado, Keisuke Ueda as Zenitsu Agatsuma, Yugo Sato as Inosuke Hashibira and more.
Meanwhile, the London Coliseum is showing the theater adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s classic, Spirited Away, with John Caird as the director. The 2001 Hayao Miyazaki’s animated film has taken a new form, performed in Japanese with English subtitles, in front of a live audience.
