Jonathan Majors breaks down in tears during acceptance speech: “I’m imperfect”

Jonathan Majors was honoured with a ‘Perseverance Award’ in Los Angeles this week, and he became emotional during his acceptance speech. The actor found himself in a difficult position following his sentencing in April, to a year of domestic violence counselling, after being found guilty of harassing and physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. He has always denied those allegations against him.

Majors spoke candidly about his flaws during his acceptance speech, saying, “I’m imperfect. I have shortcomings — I acknowledge them.” The actor thanked those closest to him, including his mother, girlfriend, sisters and daughter, and also expressed gratitude to high-profile friends such as Will Smith, Tyler Perry and David Oyelowo, who supported him throughout his legal troubles.

Before his arrest in March 2023, Majors was enjoying a successful career in the entertainment industry, having starred in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Creed III, and the Emmy-winning TV series Lovecraft Country. Marvel Studios also assigned him to play the new central villain Kang the Conqueror in the MCU. However, following the guilty verdict, Marvel Studios cut all ties with Majors, and he was dropped by his management company, Entertainment 360, as well as his publicity firm, the Lede Company.

Despite the scandal surrounding him, Majors has secured his first film role since his conviction. He will star in the independent revenge thriller Merciless, directed by Martin Villeneuve, the younger brother of Dune director Denis Villeneuve. Shooting is expected to begin in Saskatchewan, Canada, this autumn. Jonathan Majors has faced a difficult journey, however, he remains determined for a successful future in his career
