The hunt for a young British man who disappeared in the north-west of Tenerife after nightfall has entered its sixth day. Jay Slater, 19 years old and from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, was on the island for a music festival when he vanished. He rang a friend in distress on Monday morning, saying he was lost and thirsty. Slater’s last known position was on a trail in Rural de Teno national park. Lancashire Police has proffered assistance to the Spanish authorities searching for Mr Slater, but they believe they have all necessary resources at their disposal.
The apprentice bricklayer went missing after leaving the group he had travelled with to attend the NRG festival held at the Papagayo night club in Playa de las Americas. He subsequently accepted a lift with two men he had met to drive to the national park. No further information on Slater’s whereabouts has been received. The search teams combed a mountainside and ravines and searched an area near farm structures thoroughly. Law enforcement officials investigating the disappearance took away rubbish bags without detecting any clues.
Traversing Rural de Teno is hazardous due to the location’s remoteness and daunting mountains. Making such an overture at night is particularly challenging, especially in dark and confusing countryside. Despite a ground search accompanied by drone and helicopter patrols, no traces of the missing young man are yet to be found.
A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office said the department is “supporting the family of a British man who has been reported missing in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.
