Eno, a new documentary film documenting the life and work of Brian Eno is set to hit cinemas across the UK next month. Directed by US filmmaker Gary Hustwit and released exclusively in UK Picturehouse cinemas by Film First and Tigerlily Productions on Friday, July 12, the documentary is said to be a unique film with every screening. The use of bespoke generative software ensures sequenced scenes change the film with every showing. The film documents five decades of musical innovation from Brian Eno, with original interviews and never-before-seen footage and unreleased music.
Hustwit collaborated with UK-based creative technologist Brendan Dawes on the film, with original interviews from Eno, members of Roxy Music, and influential artists such as David Bowie, Talking Heads, and more. Along with insights into Eno’s workshop, the documentary also features his landmark 1978 album ‘Ambient 1: Music for Airports’.
Brian Eno has released more than 40 solo and collaborative albums throughout his illustrious career as a musician and producer that enable creativity in himself and others. He is famous for his collaborations on projects such as the Oblique Strategies cards or the music app Bloom. Eno started his career as a member of Roxy Music and went on to become one of the pioneers of ambient music.
The documentary uses generative software, making each screening of the film unique and meant to be “experienced live”. Eno is sure to be a groundbreaking film that showcases the musical career of a legendary figure in music with never-before-seen footage and insights into his creative process
