The official YouTube channel of SOPHIE, a late Scottish electronic music pioneer, has uploaded a cryptic video along with the launch of multiple new social media accounts dedicated to the artist. The teaser hints at an event scheduled for Monday, June 24, or perhaps a release or launch date for a new project. The video lists the timings of cities followed by the account handle, @MSMSMSM_FOREVER. Social media accounts have also been created with the same account handle on various platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter.
The time zones mentioned in the video and posts are London, Berlin, LA, New York, and Sydney. No further details about what is coming have been disclosed, but possibilities for speculation include posthumous music releases or platforms dedicated to archiving and spotlighting SOPHIE’s legacy. SOPHIE’s brother Ben Long revealed in June 2021, that there is a lot of unreleased music in the vaults that ranges from rough sketches to almost finished songs in the mixing stages. The main priority remains doing justice to SOPHIE.
After SOPHIE’s tragic accident in Athens earlier this year, the Glasgow-born artist passed away in January 2021. SOPHIE’s experimental approach to pop music and innovative use of vocal modulation to explore gender identity was groundbreaking. SOPHIE released albums on labels such as Numbers and Huntleys & Palmers, and in 2018, debuted her first album, ‘Oil Of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides’ on Transgressive Records, which was nominated for the Best Dance/Electronic Album at the Grammys in 2019.
The family and labels of SOPHIE have ongoing discussions over the decision to release unreleased tracks, with the family holding the final say. The focus on the potential future release of SOPHIE’s music remains doing right by the artist – putting out music that SOPHIE would have liked and was happy with.
