Alfie Lewis: Leeds teenager detained for life for murder

A teenager has been detained for life with a minimum term of 13 years for the murder of Alfie Lewis, another 15-year-old boy from Leeds, who died in hospital after being stabbed twice in the heart and leg in November 2023. Bardia Shojaeifard, who was 14 at the time of the attack, can now be named following the lifting of legal reporting restrictions. Shojaeifard had pushed Lewis to the ground before stabbing him twice in full view of a group of school children. The killing occurred on Church Road, Horsforth. Shojaeifard was convicted of murder in May this year at Leeds Crown Court following a two-week trial.

During the trial, witnesses including children, school staff, and passing members of the public gave evidence, claiming to have seen Shojaeifard attack Lewis without provocation. Prosecutor Craig Hassall KC stated that Shojaeifard had walked purposefully towards Lewis before stabbing him with a knife he had taken from a kitchen drawer at home.
