The city of Liverpool is gearing up for the upcoming General Election on July 4th, with an estimated 340,000 eligible voters. There are five parliamentary seats being contested including Liverpool Garston, Liverpool Riverside, Liverpool Walton, Liverpool Wavertree, and Liverpool West Derby. Additionally, there will be three council by-elections for the Broadgreen, Clubmoor East, and Fazakerley North wards.
It’s important to note that there have been significant changes since the last General Election in 2019 that will impact voters. Boundaries have shifted, which means some individuals may find themselves in a different constituency or having to visit a different polling station. To avoid confusion, individuals are encouraged to check their polling card before heading out the door or use the “polling station look up” feature on the Liverpool City Council website.
Another important change is that photo identification is now required to vote. All the details can be found on the back of your polling card or on the Liverpool City Council website. For those who do not have photo identification, a Voter Registration Certificate can be applied for but the deadline is 5pm on June 26th.
On polling day, voters are encouraged to be patient as the additional security measures may add time to the process. Polls will be open from 7am until 10pm, and anyone who is in line by 10pm will be able to vote. The votes will be counted overnight, and the results will be announced on the Liverpool City Council website or on the X feed @lpoolcouncil.
