The Blade reboot has experienced numerous delays since its San Diego Comic Con announcement in 2019. Last year’s writers’ strikes, coupled with the departure of two directors, has pushed back the movie’s progress despite it originally being scheduled for release in November 2023. Wesley Snipes, who played the lead role in all three films, has described the attempts to revive Blade as “kinda rough.”
In a post on his official X account, Snipes wrote, “Blade, lordylordylordy. Folks still lookin for the secret sauce, ridin snowmobiles in traffic, kinda rough.” The 61-year-old actor added, “Daywalkers make it look easy, don’t they?” The Blade reboot, featuring Mahershala Ali as the lead, has an updated release date of November 7, 2025, although the departure of director Yann Demange last week may result in further delays for the project.
Despite the setbacks, Ali remains optimistic about the film’s development. In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly last year, the actor said, “I’m sincerely encouraged in terms of where things are at and who’s on board and who’s leading the way as far as the writing of the script and the directing and all that.” Nic Pizzolatto, creator of True Detective, is among the more than five writers who have contributed to the Blade script, alongside The Fantastic Four’s Eric Pearson.
Disney CEO Bob Iger recently confirmed that the studio will release fewer Marvel movies in the future as part of its overall strategy to concentrate more on content quality than quantity. The number of Marvel projects will be reduced, with the studio head proposing an annual output of two TV series and a maximum of three films
