Police name man wanted for Coventry boy's hit-and-run death

A 12-year-old boy, identified as Keaton Slater, has been killed in a hit-and-run incident in Coventry. West Midlands Police have identified 21-year-old Dolars Aleksanders as the man suspected of causing death by dangerous driving. The police have also appealed for information on Aleksanders’ whereabouts. A black BMW found abandoned in New Arley has been seized by the police. They are continuing to urge the driver or anyone else who was in the car to come forward.

In a tribute released by the force, Keaton’s family described him as “so beautiful inside and out” and “our fun-loving little comedian” who “just wanted to make everyone laugh and smile”. Speaking on the incident, Sgt Rich Evans said that “a family has lost a 12-year-old boy in an appalling incident and our thoughts remain with them.”

Police are trying to trace those responsible for the hit-and-run incident and are continuing to check CCTV footage from the area around the crash. They are appealing for anyone with information or footage, particularly dashcam or doorbell footage to come forward. In addition, they have urged people involved in the crash, or anyone who knows them, to do the right thing and come forward.

An online fundraiser to support Keaton’s family had raised over £31,000 by Sunday morning. Meanwhile, West Midlands Police are offering the family support at this most dreadful of times and keeping them informed as their investigations continue. The community has expressed their condolences to the family of Keaton Slater and their outrage at the perpetrator
