Phil Manzanera and Simon Le Bon, two prominent figures in entertainment, are among this year’s King’s Birthday Honours list of awardees. The former, who was the lead guitarist and producer of art rock band Roxy Music, has been awarded an OBE for Services to Music, while the latter, who is the lead singer of Duran Duran, has received an MBE for Services to Music and Charity.
In response to the award, Manzanera expressed his surprise and honour and shared that the recognition carries a poignancy for him and his family. Manzanera’s father, Duncan Targett-Adams, was also awarded an OBE in 1966, but he passed away before the investiture.
Apart from his work with Roxy Music, Manzanera played with 801 and Quiet Sun, has been a long-time collaborator of David Gilmour, and has released several solo records. Last year, Manzanera published his memoir, Revolución To Roxy.
In an interview with NME, Manzanera talked about the possibility of Roxy Music producing new music in the future. He said that recording is a different ballgame and that they do not feel an immediate rush to do new music since the standards of the band’s recorded music are high.
Other awardees in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours list include writer and satirist Armando Iannucci, who received a CBE for Services to Film and Television, and artist Tracey Emin and actress Imelda Staunton, who both were given damehoods. Heather Small, the singer of M People, also received an MBE for her voluntary and charitable services
