Mike Dunn re-launches pivotal Dance Mutha label

Chicago house music legend Mike Dunn has relaunched his label Dance Mutha. The label will release previously unreleased and new tracks from himself and other artists in house, techno, and acid genres. Dunn discovered a plethora of ‘lost’ unreleased masters from the ’80s and early ’90s, which motivated him to regenerate Dance Mutha. He will share these tracks with the world and intends to release his own new material and that of other newer artists across the genres of acid, house, and techno.

The first release, Tracks From The Beginning Vol.1, comprises raw and stripped-back tracks with hypnotic lashings of acid mixed throughout. The release boasts three tracks that John Peel would have been proud of. 43:31 opens the affair with a prickly texture foregrounding raw analogous drums, whilst its interjections make it a stripped-back warehouse stomper. Analogous Code (Phaze 1) brings the rugged drums to life through yet more acid and intriguing synth patterns. Time Machine closes things with an ode to the earliest days of acid house music, with its wobbly 303s meandering around the sharpest hits.

Dunn came across a vault of tapes and DATs of recordings he thought would be interesting to get into the world, that he recorded back in the 1980s. The “Foundation Jack Tracks” showcases the early acid/Chicago house sound, with unreleased tracks by Armando, K’Alexi aka KA Posse, Hugo H, Dunn himself, and others, along with some new tracks by young artists in the acid, house and techno genres. Dunn promises to deliver more of these pioneering tracks that cemented him as one of the artists innovating during the 1980s and founded acid labels Muzique Records and Warehouse Records.

Tracks From The Beginning Vol.1 epitomizes Mike Dunn’s distinct raw, stripped-back style. He has iconic house music anthems like “Dance You Mutha” and “God Made Me Phunky” under his belt, and now, he promises more exciting tracks and discoveries from his vault. You can pre-order Tracks From The Beginning Vol.1, set for release on July 5, now
