The Princess of Wales will make her first public appearance in 2023 when she attends the annual Trooping the Colour parade. She will be accompanied by her children and take part in the carriage procession, before joining the rest of the Royal Family on the Buckingham Palace balcony. The plans were revealed in a health update from the princess, who is undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
Trooping the Colour is one of the biggest royal events of the year and celebrates the King’s birthday with a military parade, music and pageantry. This year, the King will be in a carriage as he was recently diagnosed with cancer. Despite her health issues, the Princess of Wales is “looking forward to attending the King’s birthday parade this weekend with my family”, according to a personal message.
The Irish Guards will lead the parade this year, with Irish music expected to feature and their mascot, an Irish wolfhound, making an appearance. There will also be gun salutes in nearby Green Park, and a flypast by military aircraft over Buckingham Palace.
Despite its emphasis on tradition, Trooping the Colour has made some changes this year. Soldiers will be permitted to have beards, but they must not be exaggerated in color. Three horses from the household cavalry that were injured during a previous rehearsal will also return this year.
