Dennis Lyxzén, the frontman of Refused, has suffered a heart attack, resulting in the cancellation of the band’s final festival performance in Sweden. Lyxzén announced the cancellation on social media, where he shared a photo of himself in a hospital bed. In his post, he explained that he had suffered a “massive heart attack” at his hotel that morning, calling it “extremely painful and wildly scary.” He thanked the doctors and nurses who treated him at the Uppsala hospital and assured his fans that he was feeling okay, albeit sore, tired, and shaken up.
Refused’s performance was cancelled due to Lyxzén’s health concerns. The singer added that he was disappointed about the cancellation, writing, “I was really looking forward to it. But hopefully I/we will be able to make up to you soon.” He ended his post by urging his followers to take care of their loved ones and informing them that he was confident about his recovery with medication.
Refused’s latest release was their 2020 EP, ‘The Malignant Fire,’ which was their fourth since reuniting in 2014. They previously released the albums ‘Freedom’ and ‘War Music’ and the EP ‘Servants Of Death.’ In a 2019 interview with NME, Lyxzén discussed how the band’s politics had evolved over the years, stating, “I think if you’re static in your political ideas, that’s not a good thing.”
Refused, among other Swedish artists, also called for Israel to be banned from this year’s Eurovision Song Contest
