The King’s Birthday Honours list includes a former sub-postmaster, Alan Bates, who campaigned against the Post Office Horizon scandal and has now been knighted. Actress Imelda Staunton, designer Anya Hindmarch, and artist Tracey Emin were also nominated and have received damehoods. The list contains British achievers in fields ranging from sports to entertainment to ordinary walks of life. Among those honored were cycling star Mark Cavendish, former international footballers Graeme Souness, Ally McCoist, and Karen Carney, and author Monica Ali.
