Shavo Odadjian, the bassist for System of a Down, has started a new project called Seven Hours After Violet and has released a new single, ‘Paradise.’ The band includes Odjajian, Taylor Barber from Left To Suffer on vocals, Alejandro Aranda from Scarypoolparty on guitar/backing vocals, with Morgoth and Josh Johnson from Winds of Plague on guitar/production and drums respectively. Odadjian says ‘Paradise’ is a perfect introduction to Seven Hours After Violet, as it showcases the band’s various dynamics.
Odadjian said, “I’ve been making music for over 30 years, and I wanted to do something super heavy but melodic and come back to my roots.” With Seven Hours After Violet, he aimed for something heavy and let go of other projects he’s done in the past that were outside the walls of heavy music. It was liberating for him to say, “As long as I love it, I don’t give a fuck what anybody else thinks.” The new band is his favourite thing since System, and he cannot wait for the world to hear it.
The announcement of Seven Hours After Violet follows the unveiling of Odadjian’s new label, 1336 Records. He stated that the label gives him a lot of creative control and allows him to bring on board other acts that he finds interesting later on in the future. The label will launch in partnership with the Sumerian Music Group.
CEO Ash Avildsen of the Sumerian Music Group said, “System of a Down is one of the most important and influential bands of my generation, as well as one of my all-time favorites. When I first heard Shavo was putting together a group of young cutting-edge musicians around him to form a new band, I immediately got excited just as a fan to hear what it was.” After listening to Seven Hours After Violet, Avildsen knew it had to be launched with Sumerian.
Recently, Odadjian’s System of a Down bandmate, Serj Tankian, spoke to NME about his memoir Down With the System, sharing his thoughts on boycotts and the current Israel-Palestine conflict. Tankian believes that activism is important because “we are not living in a just world.” While discussing the Hamas invasion of Israel, he remarked that netanyahu’s response was a war crime, as evident from the number of innocent people that died
