‘Mare Of Easttown’ could be coming back for a second season

Francesca Orsi, the head of drama at HBO, has revealed that a second season of the hit show Mare Of Easttown is under consideration. Created by Brad Ingelsby and Craig Zobel and starring Kate Winslet, the drama was a critical success when it concluded in 2021, with Winslet, Julianne Nicholson and Evan Peters all winning Emmy Awards for their performances. The show’s complex characters and representation of women were also praised, prompting calls for a follow-up season.

Orsi said that discussions around a second season for the show took place after the Emmys, but they felt it was too early at that time. Now, she is in “early discussions” about the possibility of returning to the story with Mare years later. She added that she plans to speak with Winslet and Ingelsby to gauge their interest in revisiting the character. The show’s creator, Ingelsby, has not confirmed or denied if there will be a second season.

In December 2021, Winslet spoke about how a second season could focus on police brutality. She stated that “these atrocities which have existed in the police force here and in America will find their way into the stories we tell” if the show returns. Winslet’s character, Mare, is described as “grumpy, bullish and beaten down after years of tragedy” in NME’s four-star review of the series.

Mare of Easttown made a big impact with viewers during its run, and many have been clamoring for more. Speaking with Variety in 2022 for their Olivia Colman cover story, Orsi indicated that they might be willing to revisit the character of Mare after several years, rather than picking up directly where the show left off. However, there has been no official confirmation of a second season being commissioned at this time.

Only time will tell whether the popular drama will return for a second season or not. While there may be early discussions about a potential follow-up, it seems fans will have to wait to find out if they will indeed be taken back to Easttown
