Playground Games has been working on the reboot of the game Fable for a while now. The British humour and overall atmosphere of the game seem to hit all the right notes. However, after getting a sneak peek at gameplay and story details, fans might be wondering how long they still have to wait.
During the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 on June 9, 2024, it was confirmed that Fable would be released in 2025 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game will launch day one on Game Pass, bringing the beloved franchise to even more players. Originally announced in 2020, the game has undergone a long journey to get to this point, and the wait for fans might be worth the wait.
The game’s story is still largely unknown, but the trailer from the Xbox Games Showcase in 2024 did provide some insight. Players will meet Humphrey, played by UK comedian Matt King, who was once the land of Albion’s greatest hero. Now retired, he and the player character must save Albion when a mysterious figure from his past threatens the very existence of the land. The addition of famous British comedians Matt King and Dave might hint at more comedian stars to show up in the game as well.
While not much is known about the gameplay, the trailers have given fans something to chew on. Fable will likely lean on its character-driven RPG legacy, as the game focuses on how a player’s reputation as a hero will attract fans, haters, and chancers as they seek to befriend or destroy the player character. There also seems to be a mix of melee combat and spellcasting to build a character the way you want to play, giving players more freedom in how they navigate the game’s various challenges.
So far, Fable visually looks fantastic, which bodes well for the game’s future success. With a solid mix of old and new gameplay mechanics, alongside Eidos-Montreal supporting Playground Games, the game is set to offer fans of the series something new while keeping to the franchise’s roots. While fans have a while to wait before they can get their hands on Fable, the trailers shown so far prove that the game is worth the hype
