The artist even took a moment to read a fan’s sign requesting its performance. “Look, I know I said I can’t relate to desperation, but I’m just a girl, so uhm,” Carpenter responded before diving into the song.
Produced by Jack Antonoff, the song features Carpenter pleading with her lover not to prove her doubts right. “Please Please Please / Don’t prove I’m right / Please Please Please / Don’t bring me to tears when I just did my makeup so nice.” The song’s music video, which features Carpenter’s boyfriend, Barry Keoghan, was also released.
In addition to captivating the audience with her performance of ‘Please Please Please’, Carpenter also delivered her rendition of ‘Nonsense’ with a new ad-lib. The festival tradition had the audience laughing, as Carpenter sang, “Do I text him back? That’s such a tough call / That won’t fit inside me; I’m dumb small / People who hate pride can suck my Gov Ball.”
Carpenter’s new album, ‘Short N’ Sweet,’ is set to release on August 23 under Island Records and is available for pre-order/pre-save. Carpenter has received some criticism after she allegedly copied a French magazine’s artwork for the album without giving them proper credit. The young singer has also recently responded to the BBC after being allegedly told to keep her performance “PG” during their festival; Carpenter included a line mentioning the BBC by name during ‘Nonsense’ and blew a kiss to the crowd.
