After months of rumors, a new Gears of War title was finally confirmed during Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase 2024. Titled Gears of War: E-Day, the game will be set 14 years before the events of the first Gears of War game and will serve as an origin story that follows main characters Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago as they attempt to fend off the first Locust emergence on Sera. A cinematic trailer was released that provided a chilling look at the game’s setting and characters.
Although no release date has been announced, Gears of War: E-Day has been confirmed for release on both Xbox Series X and S consoles and PC. The description for the game reads: “Experience the brutal horror of Emergence Day through the eyes of Marcus Fenix in the origin story of one of gaming’s most acclaimed sagas. Fourteen years before Gears of War, war heroes Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago return home to face a new nightmare: the Locust Horde. These subterranean monsters, grotesque and relentless, erupt from below, laying siege on humanity itself.”
Gears of War: E-Day marks the first Gears of War title since 2019’s Gears 5 and is part of developer The Coalition’s plans to expand the Gears of War universe. Additionally, Netflix has partnered with The Coalition to release a number of Gears of War projects, including a live-action film.
