Police have named 21-year-old Robert Robinson, who was fatally stabbed in south-east London on Thursday night. The Metropolitan Police described his killing as a “horrific crime” and appealed to the public to assist them in finding his killers. The incident occurred on Carteret Way in Deptford at around 10:35 pm. Two men aged 50 and 44 have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
According to a post-mortem examination conducted on Saturday, Robinson died from “multiple incised wounds.” His family have been notified of his death. The 50-year-old man who was arrested has been released on bail pending further investigation while the 44-year-old man remains in custody.
Det Insp Neil Tovey has appealed to people in the local community who may have seen anything to come forward. In his statement, he called for the help of anyone who had footage of the attack or the lead-up to it to contact the Metropolitan Police. While speaking about the incident, he said, “This is a horrific crime committed by persons who chose to arm themselves with weapons and blight our communities. A young man has died in brutal circumstances, and his family are grieving. We need to piece together the events which led to the attack on Robert.”
Robinson’s killing is one of many instances of knife crime that have plagued London in recent years. According to police figures, there have been over 15,000 knife crimes in London just in the last year, resulting in over 150 fatalities.
