Watch Paramore open for Taylor Swift at the first UK ‘Eras’ show in Edinburgh

Alt-rock band Paramore has opened for pop star Taylor Swift on her ‘Eras’ tour in Edinburgh. Murrayfield Stadium hosted the gig, where numerous Swift fans had been camped out for days in anticipation of the concert. Paramore played a nine-song set comprising hits such as ‘Misery Business’ and ‘Decode’, as well as newer favourites such as ‘This Is Why’. They also performed a cover of Talking Heads’ ‘Burning Down The House’. The cover first appeared on a recent A24 compilation album.

Frontwoman Hayley Williams recently praised Swift’s latest album, ‘The Tortured Poet’s Department’. She wrote on Instagram that she was “so ready” to tour with Swift again, adding that “every one of us knows this kind of grief! It’s so impressive to me how specific and colourful Taylor’s words get without ever losing the universal thread.” The band has seen Swift’s enduring success as a role model and inspiration, with Williams telling Uproxx that “it’s amazing what she’s traversed through and not only managed to last, but continue to get better as an artist, get bigger in her appeal.”

Fans showed their appreciation of Paramore’s opening set via social media. One user, @crystalforarmor, posted a clip of the band performing ‘Misery Business’ on TikTok. Another user, @colormeandrea, tweeted to her followers that “scientists say they have never seen such a high level of being a fucking mother…” before posting a picture of the band’s performance on Twitter.

Swift’s UK tour, which is the largest in the country this year, receives high praise from both fans and critics. NME awarded the Edinburgh show a full five stars, and praised Swift’s ability to foster a sense of community among her fans. The publication also described the tour as “a marvel of a show that comes with a beating heart.”
