The Duke of Westminster, Hugh Grosvenor, tied the knot with his fiancée, Olivia Henson, in a ceremony at Chester Cathedral, which was attended by their closest family and friends. The prince’s wedding drew thousands of well-wishers to the cathedral, with Prince Charles among them. Prince William served as an usher for the wedding party, and Princess Eugenie and Lady Edwina Grosvenor attended the wedding as well.

Despite the joyous occasion, a group of demonstrators disrupted the wedding after the couple left the cathedral. Just Stop Oil, a campaign group, claimed responsibility for the protest’s orange plume, which ignited a powder paint explosion. Two female protesters were subsequently arrested on suspicion of public order offenses and remain in police custody.

Further reports revealed that Prince George, the duke’s godson, was unable to attend the ceremony on account of it falling on a school day. In contrast, Prince Harry, who was an usher at Lady Tamara Grosvenor’s wedding in 2004, did not attend the ceremony by mutual agreement. King Charles III and Queen Camilla did not attend the event either, as they traveled to Normandy to commemorate the D-Day anniversary. The Princess of Wales, who is undergoing cancer treatment, was also absent from the ceremony.

The couple made a conscious effort to involve local and regional suppliers in several aspects of the day, given the Grosvenor family’s long and profound attachment to both the city and the cathedral. The city’s annual Summer Flowers project has also been funded by the couple, with 100,000 flowers planted to commemorate their wedding, and they have paid for free ice cream and sorbet from three local independent businesses to be given to visitors to Chester city centre throughout the day
