Matty Healy, from the band The 1975, has been “blindsided” by Taylor Swift’s album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’. The album was supposedly inspired by their relationship, but Healy has reportedly found it “hilarious” because they were “never serious” and he had “mixed feelings” about the situation. Swift and Healy were estimated to have been romantically involved from April to June 2023, just after she had split from her long-term boyfriend, Joe Alwyn.
A close friend of Healy’s told US Weekly that Healy “loves the attention it’s brought to him, [but] he also thinks it’s hilarious because at no time [were they] ever serious”. They also said that he was “blindsided” that Swift’s lyrics made their relationship out to be more serious than it was. Swift sings in ‘loml’ about “talking rings and talking cradles” and “getting married” but Healy says it had “never even come up” and that he is taking it in his stride.
The attention from the album reportedly makes Healy uncomfortable, but he was relieved it wasn’t worse, according to reports. Healy’s mother, Denise Welch, known for being “the Virgin Mary” among The 1975 fanbase, was asked about the album during an episode of Loose Women and joked that she wasn’t aware Swift had released an album. The 1975 have also seen an increase in their music streams by 14% following the release of the album.
Swift’s ‘Eras’ tour kicks off tonight (June 7) in Edinburgh, with three shows at Murrayfield Stadium. Overall, Healy has mixed feelings about Swift’s album, which is supposed to have been inspired by their relationship. He also says the attention makes him uncomfortable. Meanwhile, Swift’s tour is highly anticipated by fans who have been queuing for days to see her
