Liverpool’s music scene has been given a significant boost with the launch of Liverpoolmusiccity.com. The online platform has been designed to bring together musicians, businesses and creatives to make the most of the music scene in and around Liverpool. The website contains a comprehensive list of events, gigs, festivals and concerts taking place in and around the city, with editorial content provided by local professionals. The site will also include an interactive map highlighting key music-related businesses and hotspots in Liverpool. Liverpool City Region Music Board, Arts Council England and Culture Liverpool all supported the creation of the site.
According to Kevin McManus, Head of UNESCO City of Music at Culture Liverpool, Liverpool has “a heartbeat of music”, with a rich heritage and a vibrant contemporary scene. The new website will showcase a range of music from The Beatles to contemporary acts, including in-depth profiles of musicians, music businesses and other key figures in the Liverpool music world. In addition, Liverpoolmusiccity.com features interviews with key players in the city’s music scene, including Jade Burns, a BBC Radio presenter who has worked in the radio and music scenes for a decade.
The new site has been launched following a number of high-profile music-related events in the city. These included the unveiling of a blue plaque in honour of Beatles guitarist George Harrison, a free concert featuring the local Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and an installation trail called Taylor Town to mark the arrival of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Liverpool. Liverpool is also gearing up for an exciting summer of festivals and events, including Africa Oyé, International Beatleweek and Creamfields – with Liverpoolmusiccity.com set to be the go-to place for visitors and locals alike.
Yaw Owusu, Editorial Lead for Liverpoolmusiccity.com, said the platform would celebrate the city’s musical past while looking to the future. With input from local musicians, photographers and writers, Liverpoolmusiccity.com will provide a fresh, original and insightful guide to the Liverpool music scene. The website aims to help emerging artists make connections, music businesses to engage with the local community, and music lovers to plan their next outing
