Denise Povall, a former teaching assistant at a primary school, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually abusing a 10-year-old boy in the 2000s. Povall, 61, who worked for a school in the Harrogate district, has been charged with various sexual offences, including grooming and sexual assault. Even though she denied all the charges, she was found guilty as charged and subsequently sentenced on Friday at York Crown Court.

North Yorkshire Police has been investigating the case, and after the court hearing, Detective Constable Alison Morris commented on the extent of Povall’s actions. She said that the offence can only be described as “the sustained sexual abuse of a young child by a paedophile.” The victim of the crime showed tremendous bravery in coming forward and was instrumental in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
