Television presenter Michael Mosley has gone missing on the Greek island of Symi while on holiday with his wife. Mosley, best known for popularizing the 5:2 diet, was last seen on Wednesday when he left his wife on the beach and set off for a walk to the center of the island. Local police have paused their operation for the night, but more men will join the search for Mosley on Friday morning.
A helicopter and drone have been deployed as part of the search, which is also being assisted by a police dog. Mosley’s phone was found where he was staying with his wife, who reported him missing to the police. Officers are also looking through CCTV footage for any signs of the missing presenter.
Symi, which has a population of approximately 2,600 people, is part of Greece’s Dodecanese island group and sits around 12 miles northwest of Rhodes. The majority of its beaches are remote and only accessible by boat. Temperatures on Symi have been extreme in recent days, with a warning issued due to forecasts for temperatures to reach as high as 48C on Friday.
Mosley is well-known for his work as a broadcaster, which includes presenting the BBC’s Trust Me, I’m A Doctor and appearances on The One Show and ITV’s This Morning.
