Lorde has expressed her praise for Charli XCX’s new album ‘Brat,’ amidst rumors that a track on the album is about her. Charli released her latest album on June 7th, following on from 2022’s ‘Crash.’ In a four-star review, NME said that Charli “fully commits to the dancefloor” with the project. Taking to Instagram Stories, Lorde expressed her admiration for Charli and her new album. Lorde wrote, “The only album I’ve ever presaved is out today. Charli just cooked this one different. So much grit, grace & skin in the game.” Lorde continued, “I speak for all of us when I say it’s an honour to be moved, changed and gagged by her work. There is NO ONE like this bitch. Brava and welcome Brat.”
Fans have been speculating that the song “Girl, So Confusing” delves into Charli’s complicated feelings about Lorde, with lyrics such as “Yeah, I don’t know if you like me/ Sometimes I think you might hate me/ Sometimes I think I might hate you/ Maybe you just wanna be me.” Charli recently admitted to being “super jealous” of the success of Lorde’s debut single, ‘Royals.’
Ironically, Charli was mistaken for Lorde in an old interview, which has become a meme among fans. On one occasion, she jokingly claimed that she ghost-wrote the song in question. In an interview with NME in 2022, Charli revealed that the pair once came close to dressing up as each other for Halloween.
Charli is set to showcase ‘Brat’ on a UK arena tour with Shygirl later this year. She’ll also embark on a run of dates in North America with Troye Sivan. In other news, Lorde has been teasing her fourth studio album on social media. Her third record, ‘Solar Power,’ was released in 2021
