‘Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’ is now ‘Dragon Age: The Veilguard’

Dragon Age 4, the game originally known as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, has been renamed Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare has announced. The new name reflects the storyline of the game, with the titular Veil being the magical barrier that separates the normal world from the mystical Fade. The game was revealed in June 2022 and developers have been working to ensure that the game appeals to both veterans and newcomers to the Dragon Age franchise.

Following layoffs at BioWare and subsequent delays, the announcement of the new title comes ahead of a 15-minute gameplay trailer, due to be revealed next week. BioWare’s boss Gary McKay has explained that the original title did not reflect the new heroes and their stories. The studio experimented with various ideas, including a multiplayer version, to finally settle on an “incredible single player game, with all the choices, characters and world building you’d expect from us.”

Each of the seven unique characters in Dragon Age: The Veilguard will have deep and compelling stories where the player’s decisions will impact the relationships and lives of their companions. McKay promises that players will unite this team of unforgettable heroes as they take on a terrifying new threat unleashed on the world. While the Dread Wolf still has an important part in the plot, the player and their companions are the heart of this new experience.

The gameplay trailer for the game will be revealed on Tuesday, 11 June, at 4pm GMT
