Actor Paul Mescal will reportedly take on the role of Paul McCartney in Sam Mendes’ forthcoming biopic series about The Beatles, according to reports. Harris Dickinson is said to have been cast as John Lennon, while Barry Keoghan will star as Ringo Starr. Charlie Rowe will reportedly portray George Harrison, with Mendes directing across four films. The reports have not been confirmed by Sony, the distributor for the films.

In February it was announced that Mendes would be directing four biopic projects about the band. Each film will document the story of one band member and will overlap to some extent, in order to tell the story of the band as a whole. The project has been described as a game-changer, as it is the first time Apple Corps Ltd, along with former Beatles McCartney and Starr, as well as the families of Lennon and Harrison, have allowed full life story and music rights for a scripted film.

The biopics are set to be released globally in 2027. The band stated that: “The dating cadence of the films, the details of which will be shared closer to release, will be innovative and groundbreaking”. The project promises to be one of the most ambitious depictions of the band, following the recent trend of biopics for popular musicians such as Elton John in “Rocketman” and Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

In addition to the release of the upcoming Beatles biopics, a newly restored version of the “Let it Be” documentary has been released on Disney+. The film documents the making of the band’s album of the same name. The original film has been difficult to obtain over the past five decades, however Disney+ has released the restored version, receiving a positive four-star review from NME ahead of its re-release
