Several music industry organizations, including labels, promoters, and collectives, have announced their support for the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI). This initiative is an extension of the Boycott Divestment Sanctions (BDS) movement and was established in 2004 to oversee boycotts of cultural, artistic, and academic aspects in the movement.
Numerous groups, such as Techno Queers and NYC Noise, have pledged support for the campaign, with many more following suit. “Cultural institutions and their communities are part and parcel of the ideological and institutional scaffolding of Israel’s regime of occupation, settler-colonialism, and apartheid against the Palestinian people,” PACBI writes in a statement on the Writers Against the War on Gaza website.
This effort is part of many artists’ and musicians’ plans to support Palestine’s freedom and a cease-fire. An open letter in October 2020 signed by 300 electronic musicians urged people to “speak out” against Israel’s ongoing attack on Gaza. An open letter addressed to Keir Starmer, signed by over 100 artists, musicians, and actors, called on him to stop arms sales to Israel if appointed Prime Minister.
