Village Studio, a game development company with former RuneScape, Rust, and Angry Birds 2 developers, has created a real-time combat card game called Inferni: Hope & Fear. Unlike most card games, up to four teams of two players can compete at the same time, allowing players to draw cards from their decks, choose a target, and pick an attack spell for real-time action. Instead of effects happening instantly, attacks appear as orbs flying towards players, giving everyone a chance to react and offer a living, evolving battlefield. Some cards can weaken, speed up, reflect, or increase the damage of already-in-motion spells, while others let players cast defensive spells on themselves. The real-time combat strategy is different from turn-based card games, and the game includes a drafting feature, where players can open packs and pass them to colleagues, providing information on the actions of competitors during gameplay.
Before the match, players must choose from one of five characters, each with different play styles such as glass cannons, control, healers, Leather Man, and access to different decks. Players must typically rely on the drafting system to ensure they have adequate cards to defend themselves. Even self-inflicting cards on players and teammates can be useful, making this game an exciting and complex card game that is worth playing.
While the game’s style may not be modern and may resemble 90s PC games, it offers an exceptional gameplay experience, and its graphics run well on any machine. Village Studio is offering a free demo on Steam for players to try. With its easy-to-grasp gameplay, unique real-time action, and drafting feature, Inferni is quickly becoming a popular card game among players
