Indonesian metal band Voice of Baceprot (VOB) is set to make history this month by becoming the first Indonesian act to play at Glastonbury Festival. VOB will kick off Glastonbury’s Woodsies stage on Friday morning, warming up for Jamie xx, Kim Gordon, James Blake, Kneecap and others. The trio of Firda ‘Marsya’ Kurnia (guitar/vocals), Euis Siti ‘Sitti’ Aisyah (drums) and Widi Rahmawati (bass) released their debut album ‘Retas’ in 2023 and have since hit numerous milestones in their career. However, after leaving their label and going independent, the band is set to return to their hometown of Garut in West Java, where they are currently building their own studio and writing new material.

Speaking to NME, guitarist and vocalist Marsya said: “Perhaps it’s time for us to learn to do things by ourselves,” revealing they have moved away from the massive capital, Jakarta, where they had been living, and back to their roots. The band’s response to the hype surrounding their Glastonbury performance has been one of “a bit of a moral burden” due to the expectation of audiences, but they remain eager to take on the challenge.
