Glaswegian artist Rustie has surprised fans by releasing a new single titled “Black Ice Mudra” via his long-time affiliates Warp Records. It is his first release in nearly nine years, following the release of his third studio album “EVENIFUDONTBELIEVE” in November 2015. The single showcases the maximalist electronic sound for which the artist became known, with his 2011 album “Glass Swords” considered by many to be among the all-time best electronic albums. It includes elements of grime, hip hop, experimental sounds such as prog rock and UK bass, a sound which Rustie is known for pioneering.

Following “Glass Swords”, Rustie released two more studio albums: “Green Language” in 2014 and “EVENIFUDONTBELIEVE” in 2015. However, during the latter’s tour, Rustie announced that he would be taking a break from music due to addiction and mental health problems. His return was hinted at on his social media accounts early last year with just the word “soon”, and in 2023 he played a show at Glasgow’s Sub Club. Further tour plans emerged in early 2023, with Rustie scheduled to play Project 6 festival and a takeover of Fabric, although these shows were ultimately cancelled. Rustie subsequently linked up with Numbers again to play a Boxing Day party at Sub Club.

The re-deletion of Rustie’s social media accounts since 2023 has added to the speculation among fans about what his plans may be for the future. However, for now, they can enjoy “Black Ice Mudra,” available on streaming platforms from June 4th
