Jamie xx announces first new album in nine years ‘In Waves’ along with UK headline show

Jamie xx has announced that ‘In Waves’, his first solo album in almost a decade, will be released on September 20 by Young. The record consists of 12 new tracks, including ‘Baddy On The Floor’, a collaboration with Honey Dijon and Robyn, Panda Bear and John Glacier. Jamie also enlisted the help of his xx bandmates Romy and Oliver Sim. The album is four years in the making and according to a press release, aims to capture the same “emotional crescendos and thrilling volatility of an almost mystical night out”.

The producer has already previewed the album on his The Floor residency which recently occurred at the MOT venue in South East London between May 16 and May 25. The residency included ten consecutive parties along with a secret lineup of collaborators and friends. Jamie says that the album is an introspective, fun and joyful venture and he is excited to share it with his audience.

To accompany the release announcement, Jamie released a music video for the first single, ‘Treat Each Other Right’, which has already been played at many of his DJ sets over the past few years. The track was refined over time with its release dependent on the reaction of live crowds. The futuristic anthem will appear on ‘In Waves’.

The deluxe vinyl version of ‘In Waves’ includes ‘F U (ft. Erykah Badu)’ and ‘Do Something’ as exclusive tracks. To coincide with the album’s release, Jamie xx has announced a homecoming show at London’s Alexandra Palace on September 26. He is also due to perform at Glastonbury, Pitchfork Music Festival, HARD Summer, and Miami’s III Points festival over the coming months
