Elle Fanning is the latest actress to be cast in the Predator franchise’s new film, Badlands. The film was announced earlier this year and will be directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who previously helmed the 2022 film Prey. Trachtenberg has co-written a brand new script for the upcoming film with writer Patrick Aison, with principal photography set to begin in July.
Deadline reports that Fanning is currently in talks to play the lead role in Badlands, though 20th Century Studios has yet to confirm the news. The 26-year-old actress rose to fame as a child actor, starring in films such as Babel, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Super 8. Since then, she has gained critical acclaim for her roles in films such as 20th Century Women, The Neon Demon, and Maleficent as well as taking on the lead role of Catherine the Great in the Hulu satirical drama, The Great.
Fanning’s possible involvement in Badlands comes after the success of Prey, a prequel to the first four instalments in the Predator series, which was released in 2022 and set in the Comanche Nation in 1719. The new film, Badlands, is said to be set in the future, but further details about the plot are yet to be released.
Following the success of Prey, which broke streaming records on its release in the US and received favorable reviews from both audiences and critics, excitement for the new Predator installment is high.
