Canning Town: Person rescued from fire at construction site

A fire broke out at a construction site near Silvertown Way in Canning Town, East London, leading to the rescue of one person from the second floor of the building involved. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called to deal with the emergency just after 08:20 BST and about 70 firefighters and ten fire engines were deployed to tackle the blaze. A spokesperson for the LFB mentioned that the ground floor of a commercial unit was on fire and there were no reported injuries. However, the thick black smoke that emanated around high-rise buildings required locals to keep windows and doors closed, according to the brigade spokesperson.

The A1011 Silvertown Way was closed between the A13 Canning Town Flyover and Hallsville Road. The cause of the fire was not yet known, but the LFB deployed one of its 64-metre ladders at the site. Firefighters from surrounding stations such as East Ham, Poplar, and Plaistow were present at the scene. The spokesperson for the LFB added that the firefighting crews were attending to the situation and urged locals to stay away from the affected area if possible.

Numerous calls were made by the public about a smoke plume in the area. Video footage of the scene depicts black smoke rising high above buildings. The cause of the fire remains unclear, and the LFB has launched an investigation into the incident.
