The Pier Head in Liverpool is getting ready to host the naming ceremony for Cunard’s newest ship, the Queen Anne, which is expected to arrive on Monday, 3 June. The event will begin at 2.30 pm, with the ceremony commencing at 4 pm. With performances from Andrea Bocelli, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, DJ Lauren Lo Sung and Craig Charles, the event will conclude with a 10-15 minute pyrotechnic display for Queen Anne’s sail away moment at around 10 pm.
Ahead of the celebration, Princes Parade will be closed and the Pier Head will be closed from Saturday through Monday. Superintendent Phil Mullally of Merseyside Police explained that they have been working with partners to create a safe and enjoyable occasion, and a variety of policing tactics will be employed to ensure that is the case. Members of the public in attendance are advised to stay vigilant, trust their instincts, report anything suspicious to event safety stewards or police officers, and not to leave property unattended.
Superintendent Mullally added that with the high number of visitors expected, the transport network will be very busy, and people should start planning their journeys in advance. Access to travel updates and alerts will be made available via the Merseytravel website and their social media channels.
Monday’s event promises to be another spectacular occasion for Merseyside, Mullally noted. The eyes of the world will be on the city once again, and the official naming of Queen Anne will be a momentous occasion. Of course, the event will draw large crowds, but the Merseyside police will strive to guarantee everyone’s safety and provide assistance wherever necessary. Finally, they are hoping that all visitors appreciate the occasion and participate in the celebrations
