During an interview with ABC News, UK singer PinkPantheress discussed experimenting with the length of her tracks, revealing why she prefers shorter songs. According to PinkPantheress, a song doesn’t need to be longer than 2 minutes 30 seconds. She believes there is no need to repeat a verse, have a bridge, or a long outro.
PinkPantheress’ 2021 album “to hell with it” featured 10 tracks, but the total runtime of the entire album was only 18 minutes, averaging around 1 minute 18 seconds per track. During the interview, she also talked about her origins as a producer playing with GarageBand and posting a new song every day on TikTok until she eventually found fame.
US singer Dionne Warwick responded to PinkPantheress’ comment with a question mark, later adding that artists are allowed to create their art in any way they choose, but she believes a bridge is important. PinkPantheress revealed that shortening the length of her songs was a result of experimenting and playing around with different track lengths.
The interview followed the release of PinkPantheress’ latest single, “Turn It Up,” which she says is about meeting someone in a club and developing complicated feelings for them.
