PinkPantheress, the Bath-born singer known for her short and sweet songs, has opened up on why she believes songs should not be longer than two minutes and thirty seconds. In an interview with ABC News’ Prime Playlist segment to promote her latest single ‘Turn It Up’, the 23-year-old artist stated that making shorter songs was the result of experimentation. PinkPantheress also added that songs don’t require a bridge, repetition of a verse, or a long outro.
The singer-songwriter’s debut album, ‘Heaven Knows’ released in November 2021, features her longest track to date, ‘Capable of Love’ which stands at three minutes and forty-three seconds. Most of the tracks on the album range between two and three minutes in length. By comparison, the artist’s 2021 mixtape ‘To Hell With It’ contains ten tracks, and only three of them are longer than two minutes.
While PinkPantheress’s views on shortening songs have been positively viewed, they have also drawn criticism. Dionne Warwick, a music legend, publicly disagreed, stating that a bridge is important as it gives a song time to breathe. Meanwhile, the artist has remained popular, garnering further interest from fans and media outlets.
Aside from her music, PinkPantheress briefly spoke to Ashan Singh about her fears regarding stardom, stating that becoming famous was “very scary”. Initially, she chose to remain “incognito” as she only wanted those who had a real taste for her music to find out more about her. She has also publicly discussed her recent hearing loss in her right ear which has made mixing her own music difficult
