Musician Romy has released a new single, “Always Forever”, produced and co-written by Fred Again.. The single was also co-produced by Joy Anonymous and features a sample of Donna Lewis’ 1996 hit “I Love You Always Forever”. Romy expressed her gratitude to Lewis for giving permission to use her song, saying that the reimagined version has been in the works for some years. Lewis said in response on Instagram that it was “a joy” to watch Romy and her team “create” the new single.
Romy explained on BBC Radio 1 that the pressure was on to write lyrics around such an iconic track, but that she sought to “add some emotion to the verses”. She stated that she aimed to convey the message that it is “OK to be sad” and that people can always turn to her for support. The track is accompanied by a video directed by Charlotte Wells, who also wrote and directed the television series “Aftersun”.
Romy will be performing at a number of festival events this summer, including Glastonbury, Primavera Sound Barcelona, Field Day, and Roskilde, among others. “Always Forever” is Romy’s first standalone release since her debut solo album, “Mid Air”, in 2021.
