Travis Scott has reportedly settled the last of nine wrongful death lawsuits filed against him in the wake of the Astroworld Disaster in 2021, according to The Houston Chronicle. The Astroworld Festival’s third year saw the death of ten people and hundreds more injured due in part to a crowd crush during the rapper’s headline performance. Following the tragedy, the families of those who died filed numerous lawsuits. The final unresolved wrongful death case was filed by the family of nine-year-old Ezra Blount, the event’s youngest fatality. Several lawsuits regarding those injured as a result of the disaste have yet to be resolved, with approximately 2400 ongoing.
The trial’s jury selection was scheduled to begin on September 10th, but last week the Blount family’s attorney S. Scott West announced that he had reached a settlement with Live Nation and Scott. They stated that they “look forward to continuing the process of healing and never forgetting,” according to the attorney’s statement given to The Houston Chronicle. Ezra Blount was in the audience with his father when he was trampled on during the crush while sitting on his father’s shoulders.
In June of 2023, a grand jury decided that Scott would not be indicted on charges related to Astroworld, and there is currently civil litigation against him, set to take place in October of this year
