Strut Records is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a new compilation titled ‘Kampire Presents: A Dancefloor in Ndola’, which is curated by DJ Kampire. The album will feature various musicians such as Pembey Sheiro, Lady Isa, Princess Aya Sarah, Tshala Muana and Di Groovy Girls, among others. The V/A is set to be released on August 2 and will show the growth of V/A compilations promoted by Strut Records while promoting DJ talent across the globe.
DJ Kampire’s home country of Zambia is the primary inspiration for the album, which was influenced by her early years in Ndola. Kampire’s focus on the V/A has been to remember Africa’s rich musical history, as well as highlight emerging DJ talent’s ability to showcase it to the rest of the world. The album is said to be a collections of memories of her childhood as well as of her father’s unique musical taste.
The compilation features an unprecedented mix of African genres that were prevalent during Kampire’s upbringing, including Congolese rumba, soukous, township bubblegum and the guitar-led sounds of Zambian kalindula. The menu includes styles of music that are usually deemed rural and unsophisticated; however, Kampire sees them as a source of inspiration for modern African DJs and artists, who draw motivation from these timeless musical genres.
In addition to the album, Kampire will personally curate a new edit and write personal linear notes on her relationship with the album’s music. The album will be available on CD and 2LP formats. ‘Kampire Presents: A Dancefloor in Ndola’ is available now for pre-order. The album’s lead single, “Naughty Boy” by V-Mash, is also available to stream on platforms such as Spotify.
