The Black Keys have cancelled their upcoming North American arena tour, which was set to take place from September to November. The International Players Tour would have consisted of 31 shows across the US and Canada in support of their 12th album, Ohio Players. The duo, made up of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, were due to start the tour in Tulsa on September 17, with The Head And The Heart as the supporting act. Tickets for all the shows on the tour are now cancelled, although a one-off show at Chicago’s Grant Park on July 6 is still scheduled to go ahead.
The band’s official website now shows that all of the scheduled shows have been removed, but no explanation has been given for the cancellation. Fans who have purchased tickets will be refunded automatically through their original method of purchase. The band’s representatives have not issued an official response to the cancellation.
The tour followed the duo’s UK and Ireland tour, which ended in the spring, and featured three nights at the O2 Academy Brixton. Ohio Players, which was released on April 5, featured collaborations with Noel Gallagher and Beck and included the singles ‘Beautiful People (Stay High)’, ‘I Forgot to Be Your Lover’, and ‘This Is Nowhere’. In a three-star review, NME remarked that the album felt like it prioritised impact over depth, and that it bore a stronger resemblance to ‘Dropout Boogie’ than their earlier singles.
Black Keys fans have expressed their disappointment on social media, with some attributing the cancellation to exorbitantly priced tickets. The band had been one of several contemporary acts performing at arenas in 2024, which some fans deemed to be inappropriate for their style of music
