Newcastle-based Maxïmo Park has announced that its eighth studio album, titled ‘Stream of Life’, will be released on 27 September via Lower Third. The LP is the first completely collaborative album since 2017’s ‘Risk to Exist’. Produced by Ben Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective) and Burke Reid (Courtney Barnett, Sports Team), the album aims to document the world with its songs about passion, politics and privilege, among other topics.

The band has also shared the first two singles from the upcoming album. ‘Favourite Songs’ was the first release back in March, followed by ‘Your Own Worst Enemy’, which has just been made available. The album is currently available for pre-order and the lead single can be streamed on YouTube.

Frontman Paul Smith talked about the creative experience of recording ‘Stream Of Life’: “It was great to be back in a studio after recording remotely last time. Working with Ben in Atlanta, and Burke in Byker, was as stimulating as it’s ever been, and I think we captured that energy.”

On the other hand, lead single ‘Your Own Worst Enemy’, according to Smith, has a different tone to what the band has ever done before – “loose and lean, yet still rocking”. The song tackles the topic of making mistakes, and the lies people tell each other every day to abate conflict or disruption in their lives.

Maxïmo Park shall also embark on a UK and European tour in October, following the album’s release. The tour starts at Dublin’s Academy on October 8, taking in shows in Amsterdam, Paris, Copenhagen, Munich, Berlin and more, and culminates with two headlining performances at the Islington Assembly Hall in London on October 18th and 19th
