In January 2023, actor Jeremy Renner was involved in a tragic snow plough incident that left him with 38 broken bones and injuries which required him to undergo multiple surgeries. The “Hawkeye” star spoke to Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” about the ordeal, revealing that many parts of his body are now made up of metal, including half of his face and the entire right side of his back. He also shared that he suffered 14 broken ribs and had one eyeball hanging out after the accident, which was so severe that he was left in a critical condition. Renner explained that when he was faced with the extent of his injuries, he couldn’t panic as dying was not an option.
Although the incident had been an extremely violent and traumatic experience for Renner, he chose to view it as a test of his limits in terms of physical, spiritual, and emotional fortitude. During the interview, the seasoned actor shared that the experience made him appreciate the simpler things in life, highlighting how we take for granted the small and seemingly effortless repeated actions like putting one foot in front of the other or taking a breath. Renner drew attention to how the experience gave him a gift that would last for the rest of his life – the knowledge that he would never have a bad day again.
Renner is now fully recovered and back to work, having overcome the physical and emotional aftermath of the incident. In a recent interview, he discussed how his return to the Paramount+ crime thriller “Mayor of Kingstown” affected him after his harrowing experience. Renner started filming the new season at the beginning of the year, stating that starting was “a little dicey, strength-wise,” but by the end, he felt he had regained his strength. Renner shared that he had to lean on the cast and crew to get through the days, with them compensating with flexible scheduling, so he could recover fully.
Despite the physical pain he endured, Renner spoke about the mental pain his nephew suffered as he was present during the incident. Renner hopes that his nephew will heal with him and noted that his personal journey of recovery would improve his nephew’s healing process
