Hoobastank’s hit song, ‘The Reason’ has reached a billion streams on Spotify, a milestone achieved by other renowned artists such as Ed Sheeran, Drake, and Coldplay. The power ballad, released in 2004, comes from the band’s second album with the same name, and it is their most commercially successful single. ‘The Reason’ reached Number Two on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and Number One on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart upon its release.
The song also garnered two Grammy nominations in 2005 for Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, cementing its place in music history. After 20 years since the release of the song, it has received over a billion streams on Spotify, joining the extensive list of tracks that have achieved this feat.
In a statement, guitarist Dan Estrin expressed his amazement at the milestone, saying, “None of us ever expected this, and at times it feels like a dream. Hoobastank is not the only band to recently join the billion streams club on Spotify. Other artists include Maroon 5, Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, and Dua Lipa, among others.
Hoobastank recently announced a special show at the O2 Academy Islington, London, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their seminal second studio album, where they will perform on June 17th. The album was first released in 2003, and it is expected to draw their fans from around the world
