The renowned creative art company, Arcadia, has announced the creation of a new arena called The Dragonfly for this year’s Glastonbury Festival. The Dragonfly is the latest addition to the fleet of bio-mechanical creatures that Arcadia operates. According to a statement from Arcadia, this new arena has been created from an ex-Royal Navy helicopter which Monty Python’s Flying Circus inspired.
Arcadia, known for its iconic fire-breathing spider, will run The Dragonfly entirely on renewable energy such as batteries and wind and solar power that has been charged at an off-site location. The company has repurposed military machinery into a groundbreaking centrepiece of the new arena.
Several headliners will grace the stage for its opening show, including world-renowned performers such as Fatboy Slim, Eric Prydz, Amelie Lens and Andy C. Other artists, such as Barry Can’t Swim, Joy Orbison, Shygirl, HAAi b2b KI/KI and Hedex b2b Bou will also be in attendance.
Organisers of the festival have confirmed that the Arcadia field will also feature its “amphibious” The Bug stage. However, the line-up for the vehicle is yet to be announced.
Arcadia founder, Pip Rush and Bert Cole, stated that they are delighted to have faced the challenge of creating something new and exciting for Glastonbury visitors. They are confident that The Dragonfly’s profound levels of experience, from repurposing the former military machinery to creating a magnificent centrepiece for the boldest ceremonial arena yet, will leave a lasting impression on festival-goers.
In addition to the new attraction, Arcadia has revealed plans to launch a new kids’ area called The Alchemists’ Playground during Glastonbury 2024. Open to families during the day, the new playground aims to help children explore and learn about engineering, design, repurposing, and performance
