Following the death of Matthew Perry last year, Courtney Cox has shared that she still keeps in contact with her “Friends” co-star. Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the show, passed away at his home in California at the age of 54. The cause of death was reported in autopsy as “cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression” due to the acute effects of drug use. As Monica on “Friends,” Cox’s on-screen relationship with Perry’s Chandler was a fan-favorite and the two remained friends off-screen as well.
During an interview with CBS, Cox revealed that she still feels Perry’s presence around her, saying, “I’m so thankful I got to work so closely with him for so many years. He visits me a lot, if we believe in that.” She also shared that she talks to her deceased parents and other loved ones. “I talk to my mum, my dad, Matthew,” she explained. “I feel like there are a lot of people that, I think, guide us…I do sense – I sense Matthew’s around for sure.”
Reflecting on Perry’s life, Cox remembered him as someone with a “genuinely huge heart” who was also “obviously struggled.” In Perry’s 2022 autobiography “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” he opened up about his addiction to alcohol and painkillers. Cox shared an emotional tribute to Perry via Instagram following his passing, saying, “I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day.”
Despite Perry’s passing, the impact he made on his co-stars and fans alike continues to be felt. The enduring popularity of “Friends” serves to remind us of the profound impact Perry had on popular culture, and his contributions continue to be celebrated by those who knew and loved him
